Google maps fails – need new photos

A few weeks ago I went out with my Dad to do some fishing in some of the hard to find lakes near Forks; Wentworth, Thunder, Big Joe’s, and Dickey Lake. As time passes the Rayonier maps get more inaccurate and finding these places gets more difficult. It would be very nice to have a hi-res satellite picture to find what you’re looking for the night before you head out. (Maybe I should just buy a GPS)

Google maps quality is horrible but Multimaps has some great images of the entire area. It looks like the Google maps images are pretty old too, there’s some clear cuts that are growing with reprod now but still appear totally covered in trees. Here’s some links comparing the same space around Thunder Lake (Gunderson Mountain area).

Google maps or Multimaps

Unfortunately Multimaps is slower, has a clunky interface and in all other ways inferior. Whoever is in charge of this stuff needs to give some lovin to the Olympic Peninsula. And thanks to Rayonier for keeping all this land accessible to the public. Hopefully it will stay this way since whenever the state gets their hands on something they close it up so no one can make use of it.
